Comments: This is a wonderful 50% silk/50% merino wool yarn that is
hand-dyed. Joslyn visited the Minnesota Knitter's Guild to tell us about raising
animals and creating yarn. I couldn't resist this yarn!

Project Name: Matt Seaman
Scarf
Designer: Myrna Stahman
Pattern Source: Interweave Knits supplement
Yarn: Pashmina Cashmere
Yarn Source: Yarns by Design at Yarnover 2001
Date Started: 4/1/01
Date Completed: 4/25/01
Comments: This scarf design is based on the original Seaman's Scarf
used for the Christmas at Sea program - two 14" (or so) ends with ribbing
in the middle. I made a regular Seaman's scarf and loved how the ribbing hugged
your neck and kept you warm. This variation was designed in memory of Matthew
Shepard, a college student who was killed because he was gay. I got this yarn at
the Yarnover market - it is absolutely the softest thing I've ever felt. I had
to cast on and knit it immediately because it was so soft. Of course, now it's
too hot to wear a scarf, but I have something to look forward to once the snow
starts to fly. I decided to buy another small skein of this yarn and knit a
matching pair of gloves. The cuffs are beaded - knit in the style of the
Norwegian book "Pearls on the Pulse." I then picked up the correct
number of stitches and knit gloves following an article in "Hand-Knitting
Techniques from Threads Magazine." A picture of the gloves (and maybe a
better one of the scarf) will follow.
