Yarn: Cascade 220 and cashmere fleece
Yarn Source: Borealis
Yarns
Date Started: 10/8/04
Date Completed: 11/9/04
Comments: This was my first attempt at thrummed knitting. I had seen
thrummed mittens years ago when I first started knitting, but at that point I
only could afford to buy yarn for one project at a time, so I didn't buy the
fleece before it was gone. When I went to Shepherd's Harvest this year, I found
this incredibly soft cashmere fleece and bought it, thinking I should finally
try thrummed knitting. Then Yarn Harlot started the thrum-along and there you
go.
I chose the yellow Cascade 220
because I had never tried that yarn and wanted to see what all the fuss is
about (love it and will definitely use it again). I chose yellow because the
blue of the fleece with the yellow yarn reminds me of the beautiful pottery in
Italy that I adore.
I had a lot of trouble getting
the technique right at first, so the first half mitten doesn't look so great. I
didn't rip and re-do it though. I had to re-do the second mitten's thumb,
though, because it was markedly smaller than the first one and looked really
bad.
These are incredibly warm
mittens and I don't wear mittens usually, so we'll see whether I end up wearing
them or giving them away.

Project Name: Velvet
Oblivion
Designer: Stephannie Roy
Pattern Source: Knitty
Yarn: Muench Touch Me and Bernat Boa
Yarn Source: Touch Me from my Secret Pal and Boa from JoAnn's, Etc.
Date Started: 11/13/04
Date Completed: 11/13/04
Comments: I love Velvet Oblivion and wanted to make something from
the skein I got from my Secret Pal. This is a neat little pattern. I washed the
mask in the washing machine and it definitely felted a little because it's
smaller than when I started it.
