As you can see above, Robert was the cover boy of the Spring 1999 issue of Live Music, the magazine of the Minnesota Orchestra. The interview on pp. 22 - 25 was conducted in January, 1999. The article details Robert's love for music and his diverse tastes. It indicates that the CDs on his living room coffee table include Beethoven, Vivaldi, the Black Crowes and Marilyn Manson. They say, "Here's a man who's learned to balance a career requiring brawn, brute force, and head-butting with a private life centered on the pursuits of the mind." But then, we already knew that, didn't we?

Robert's take on this:

"The locker room doesn't have to be an intellectual wasteland. There are a lot of college-educated guys walking around in there."

"I've always had a love of learning, a need to know why things are the way they are. It bothers me when I come upon a subject that I don't know anything about. More than anything else, living the life of a professional athlete - with the free time to read, to travel, to think - has given me the chance to explore those things that I find intellectually stimulating."

With respect to classical music, Robert says his favorite is Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, which plays an important part in one of his favorite movies, "A Clockwork Orange." Says Robert, "The Ninth just seems to have it all. Depending on the mood I'm in, I may listen to one of the big Rachmaninoff piano concertos. There's Vivaldi if I want to calm down - soft and light. Or there's the thunder of Tchaikovsky. But Beethoven's Ninth does all of that in one piece. It rumbles, then it soothes, then it inspires. There are just so many aspects to it."

October 26, 1998, Sports Illustrated, "The Purple Tide Has Turned", p. 63

Robert states on p. 64, "Red McCombs's buying this team has changed everything.  Finally there is the stability this team really needed.  At the same time he has brought a sense of enthusiasm and excitement that has been fantastic."

"What Denny has had to put up with in this town is a bunch of crap.  Some people formed a negative opinion of him and just wouldn't change their minds.  I don't want to say race was the only reason, but it was part of it.  This town is way more conservative than it claims to be.  All we can hope is that playing like we are will help mitigate some of those ugly feelings and attitudes."

"We play because we get paid to, but Denny is a guy you want to win for.  He has stuck his neck out for so many of us that we want to pay him back."

Robert appeared shirtless in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode titled "The Mole People." He was the first and one of only two celebrities to guest star on MST3K.
