In the NFC and NFL: Robert finished the season as the leading rusher in the NFC and second to Edgerrin James (with 1,709 yards) in the NFL. He had the second highest per run average in the NFL (to Marshall Faulk with 5.4 yards per carry).
Robert has scored 28 rushing touchdowns, averaging 27.2 yards per touchdown. This is the highest average in league history (among players with at least 20 rushing touchdowns). No one is within even 5 yards of him in this category. 15 of these 28 touchdowns have been for 20 yards or more with 8 of 50 yards or more.
Robert was the leading Buckeye rusher in 1990 (1,126 yards including the bowl game). This broke the existing Freshman record of 867 yards held by Archie Griffin. He is the only player in Ohio State history to rush for over 1,000 yards as a freshman. He was named 1990 Freshman of the Year by UPI. In 1991, Robert chose to concentrate on academics and sit out the season. He did run track that year and led the relay team to conference indoor and outdoor titles. He was named track All-American. In high school, he was a two-time Ohio Mr. Football.
